I hate free cuts.

Today, I woke up at quarter to six in the morning. I lazily took my time in eating breakfast and in taking a bath, so I got out of the house an hour later. While walking along our street, the two manongs were there again, seated inside the truck parked in front of our neighbor's house, which is two houses away from mine. They greeted me good morning again, and I remember walking faster.

I walked past them yesterday, too and while I thought that their greeting was out of courtesy, I smiled back at them and walked ahead, only to hear them say "ate pahingi naman ng number mo". You can't imagine how afraid I was that time. I heard footsteps behind me and deep inside, I imagined them following me - paranoid, yes, but that's what I seriously thought but hoped that was not the case. That time, I couldn't see anyone on the same street. I felt relieved when I got out of the village. You can say I got traumatized by that experience, and for it to happen again today is too much for me to handle.

Waiting for a jeep was something else. As usual, the jeeps going to Cubao were full. I had to wait for more than 15 minutes under the sun, only to give up and ride an FX going to LRT, for fear of being late for my only class.

I wasn't late at all; in fact, I was the first one in my class to arrive, as usual. I passed by PH213, the room where my teacher conducts his 7AM class, only to find it empty. I thought he dismissed them early and somehow it crossed my mind that it was a free cut already, but I waited. Good thing I brought my PSP, so I could kill time while playing FFI. My classmates began to arrive one by one. Then I heard manong technician shout in the corridor "walang pasok kay Valenciano". I thought I didn't hear right since I had earphones plugged in my ears and my classmates weren't leaving. Then he went to our room only to repeat himself - there was no class for today.

I suppose free cuts are good, but not when it's in the first and only subject for the day. When I had to wake up early. When I encountered those two scary manongs in our village again. When I took an FX going to LRT instead of a jeep straight to Katipunan.

I haven't cut a class, except for the time my foot got pricked by a barbeque stick and I had to get injections at the Health Service - but that's not really cutting, is it? I should learn to cut sometime.
